Plane Landing Collages

WARWICKSHIRE—The first conversations about Plane Landing with Compton Verney curator Michael Stanley took place in 2001. It would be 3 years before the fundraising and the engineering work of this experimental object would be complete. And while I was simply waiting for the factory in Bristol to invent the actual plane according to my specifications—a sculpture of a jet plane, not flying, but standing completely still in the sky, as if in a permananet state of landing—there was very little for me to do. So to sustain my engagement, I used the first technical drawings from the factory and made collages imagining probable locations where the plane might appear
